Tynemouth Village
Tynemouth is a small picturesque village on the North East Coast line. Favourite tourist spot of the Swedes and Norwegians who get the ferry across the water for a small taster of English life.
The village has an ancient Priory and castle, which is open to the public. The castle grounds feature a WWI and WWII naval battery, which would have been used to protect the coastline from invasion. Being situated on the River Tyne, the area was once key to the shipping industry, most famously at Wallsend, we had the Swan Hunters ship yard, which built the luxury liner Mauritania, sister ship to the ill-fated Lusitania. The Olympic, sister ship to the Titanic found her end on the River Tyne, when at the end of a long career, she was broken up for scrap in Jarrow.
Tynemouth has many small shops all offering a variety of different things from jewellery to surf boards. A good place to shop for souvenirs and knick knacks.
On a sunny day you can relax on the busy front street with a coffee at a good number of cafes or take a stroll along one of the fine sand beaches, the best beach being longsands.
If you are visiting Tynemouth pop into Roys Bakery on Tynemouth Front Street. Here you can see some of my photography work exhibited in the cafe there.

Whitley Bay
Whitley Bay is a childhood place to me. Having grown up in Tynemouth, I often made a trip along the sea front towards St Mary's Lighthouse. Which stands proud on the North East Coast line between Blyth and Tynemouth Village.
Although Whitley Bay has had an enduring time recently, there are still some great places to shop. If you are looking for entertainment in the area, a trip to the Whitley Bay Playhouse, which has recently been renovated and brought into the 21st Century and features a whole host of great acts on a regular basis.

Newcastle Upon Tyne
Newcastle Upon Tyne is my home City. Newcastle lies in the North East of England and is famous for giving it's name to Newcastle Brown Ale, which sadly is no longer brewed here.
This region is rich in history and has places of natural beauty all within a short drive. The city of Newcastle sits on the river Tyne and is neighbour to Gateshead, home of the Baltic Centre of Contemporary Art and the SAGE music conference hall.
Although not much remains of ancient Newcastle, you can still take a visit to the castle keep, which is fully intact. Some of the cities ancient walls have survived the ages and stand as a reminder of less civilised times.
Newcastle is famous for it's nightlife and you will not be disappointed with a night out in some of the Toons hot spots such as the Gate and Bigg Market.
Photograph of Newcastle Quayside, which features the Baltic on the left, the Sage and the famous Tyne Bridge and Millenium Bridge.

Bamburgh Castle
Bamburgh Castle lies in the far corner of North East England, near famous places such as Alnwick Castle and Holy Island.
Bamburgh is a stunning little village with an amazing castle, which has dominated the landscape for hundreds of years and protected the English coastline from invaders.
Bamburgh is about a 45min drive away from the City of Newcastle. If you are planning a trip up there I would recommend that you also visit Alnwick, famous for its use in the Harry Potter films, Craster, famous for it's kippers and Dunstanburgh, famous for the ruined castle. All these locations are within a small proximty of each other, and are well worth a visit!
Photo of Bamburgh can be purchased from www.goodyeargallery.co.uk I also have a large selection of other Northumberland Castles too. Available as photo prints or canvas prints.
