Newcastle Upon Tyne is my home City. Newcastle lies in the North East of England and is famous for giving it's name to Newcastle Brown Ale, which sadly is no longer brewed here.
This region is rich in history and has places of natural beauty all within a short drive. The city of Newcastle sits on the river Tyne and is neighbour to Gateshead, home of the Baltic Centre of Contemporary Art and the SAGE music conference hall.
Although not much remains of ancient Newcastle, you can still take a visit to the castle keep, which is fully intact. Some of the cities ancient walls have survived the ages and stand as a reminder of less civilised times.
Newcastle is famous for it's nightlife and you will not be disappointed with a night out in some of the Toons hot spots such as the Gate and Bigg Market.
Photograph of Newcastle Quayside, which features the Baltic on the left, the Sage and the famous Tyne Bridge and Millenium Bridge.
